Thousand Oaks California the Site in the Latest in a Wave of Mass Shootings
November 8, 2018It was 'College Night', in Thousand Oaks, California, an area northwest of Los Angeles. According to numerous news reports, a 28 year old male entered the location of what is known as the Borderline Bar and Grill. In the moments after, he fired the gun he was in possession with. These events occurring last night, Wednesday, November 7, 2018. The gun evidently was a Glock, higher caliber, and an extended magazine, referring to a weapons add-on that holds more bullets to be fed through the firearm, than what may come as standard equipment.
There are a number of points that should be brought up at this time.
Considering that a large number of newspapers have been covering the Thousand Oaks incident, HCN will try to provide some information that maybe not everyone will, at least not at this second.
Starting from about the middle of October last month there seems to be a resurgence of violent mass shootings, taking place in various settings where persons gather.
These include a shooting at a synagogue in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, last Saturday in October.
It has also been made known, that there was an attempted beginning of what might have been a mass shooting that did not materialize, a few days before, Wednesday the 24th, different location. Jefferson, Kentucky, was the locale where an armed man was reportedly seen grabbing aggressively at the door of a religious institution, then within a short time span later, shot 2 persons in a Kroger supermarket. There are reports that a racial slur was said at some point during or near the during the melee.

For those that have been around long enough to reflect on the following incident, let us go back to 1973, when there was what is now described as a 'mass killing' or even 'mass shooting', that involved shooting, along with other acts, in Washington DC, close to the Gold Coast area of Silver Spring, Maryland. Seven fatalities, and other injuries resulted. the site that the events took place, was being used as a place of learning and prayer, in addition to a residence. Part of what made that incident so protuberant, was the shattered peace, and a large consensus, that nothing like that has happened before, the framework, here in the USA in a wealthy part of DC and Maryland.
What is happening today, is mass shootings are occurring at a frequency that a protuberant incident which would otherwise be etched into the history of the Country, is becoming a regularity. A 'new culture', a new atmosphere, is trying to emerge, however, such culture and an atmosphere that has no place in America.
A contrast exists, between the early 1970s and now, with respect to mass shootings on US soil; contemplation on what the reasons are a deeper and deeper, and broader levels, allowing us to ascertain what the reasons are for the contrast, might help in mitigating the now problematic frequency of mass shootings.
In the past several years, there have been so many mass shootings, that websites, webpages, and blogs are devoted to them. To name them all here is a project in itself, whereat, a few might be mentioned at a later point, as this article gets updated.
Some of the suspects in the shootings, were not even alive yet in the 1970s, nor are involved in terms of knowing a lot about major events of the sort that took place in the 70s era.
PTSD was an issue just after the Vietnam War, when soldiers returned home, but still, there was not this many mass shootings altogether like what has been seen in the past 5 years.
Next point, no matter what the genre of music, whether country, rock, the genre of music does not constitute in itself, a green light to go mass murdering those that gathered. Similar rule for the name of the location of the gathering place.
Uses of names like, bar, club, tavern, lounge, and nightclub, are sometimes used loosely and intermittently, to attract customers. In other places of the world, the meanings of those words do not have the same, as in other places, as for instance, a sleazy place that encourages nudity, clothing stripping for money, and purely alcohol drinking. At times, an owner of a restaurant might change names and outside facade of the location, experimenting with what strategy brings the most customers, while on the inside, the events inside remain with moderation and accepted limits for anyone's religion. The name of the location is not an excuse to allow our younger generation to be victimized to gun violence, nor subjects of mass shootings.
It seems that a wave of mass shootings since the event in Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh, are moving, perhaps, or perceived as what might be going on, an aspect thereunto, almost in a flow from East Coast to West Coast.
Veterans of the military that may be suffering from PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, is a major concern. It is understood, that a part of the warfare our soldiers are undergoing, generally time frame, in the past 20 years, is to condition them to have PTSD, and carry out acts of violence once they exit the military and return home. Elements of suicide are included in this discussion.
Our US soldiers need to be taken care of when they return, and of course while they are in the military as well. They should not be faced with constant emotional oppression from their neighbors and families. It might seem like a frivolous matter, to allow a soldier to continue to go a few more days without the emotional support, psychological help he or she needs, for a few more days, especially if there are no major physical signs, such as a limb broken and they need to be admitted to a hospital, the reality is, those few more days, are the days where emotional build-up continues, and could be enough to topple over the breaking point of the soldier, and they do something dramatic, such as carry out a mass shooting.
