After the climax of the ethic based war in the Balkans pretty much phased away about 20 years ago, still today, sentiments and emotions that are oerhaps deep-seated, still surface in different ways.
Most readers of the news here in the US, know it as the war in Bosnia.
A bit more in-depth, many analysts feel it was a war that involved a large share of Yugoslavia, and numerous sub-strife between different regions, such as with Kosovo, Herzegovina, and other locations. Croatia, Montenegro, are among them.
What we know today, is that a major sports coach, refused to lead his team against the Kosovo team, perhaps because he sensed a conflict of interest on principle he holds, cathected, for lack of better words, manifest, to the non-recognition of a geo-political entity, in reference to Serbia with respect to Kosovo.
These are coming from older individuals that live their all their lives, and have a daily grapple of multiple dimensions of their own society and those that interface with it. So, the deeper reasoning may be known only to himself. Perhaps a reference to Coach Tumbakovic. A few players opted out as well. Confer Montenegro football association, Fudbalski savez..., developments over the past several days.
Historians, for brief illustration contrast, can study the region and its tensions, and say that the histories of Serbia, for instance once pronounced Servia, and Kosovo, go way back many years before the exchange of violence and oppression that occurred from the 1980s on up to the change of the millennium.
In summary, standing wisdom is to maintain peace, of course sports is a big key to that, and be watchful, and mindful.
